The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Andrew Sorowen is among the seven Police directors whose contract ran out and have since handed over office.
Surprisingly, Sorowen who joined Uganda Police in 1975 left a bitter man after 47 years of service.
A source in Police told this website that Sorowen on Monday handed over office to ACP John Atuhaire but later refused to present office keys and the police car.
“He simply asked someone to take a picture of him with ACP Atuhaire and after that he left the office locked and took off with the car,” said a source.
Handing over instruments office means returning all government belongs which a civil servant may have used during his time to execute work.
“He is bitter that President Museveni refused to extend his contract,” said a source.
The seven cops sent packing are; AIGP ANDREW SOROWEN DIRECTOR WELFARE, AIGP JOHN NDUGUTSE ATTACHED TO UN NAIROBI, AIGP STEVEN MUGISHA DIRECTOR FIRE, AIGP DAVID OCHOM DIRECTOR OPERATIONS, AIGP ABASS BYAKAGABA DIRECTOR CT, AIGP HARUNA ISABIRYE ATTACHED TO AMERICA and AIGP ASAN KASINGYE DIRECTOR CP.
Five of them have since handed over office.
Sorowen in his 47 years, has served in many capacities and at a time of his retirement he worked as the Director of Welfare, Production and Sports.
A source in Police said that all the 7 top Police officers who have been working on contract are spitting venom as their efforts to seek an extension fell on the deaf ear of the President.
It is a habit for most civil servants in Uganda to ‘confiscate’ government properties especially cars and houses after retiring.
Mr Sorowen couldn’t be reached for a comment.
