Hon Rebecca Kadaga, the First Deputy Prime Minister has been asked by her supporters in Parliament to contest for Speaker following the death of Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah who defeated her last year.

The meeting, according to knowledgeable sources sat on Monday evening at her Muyenga residence in Kampala.

Kadaga will have to first resign her position as First Deputy Prime Minister before expressing interest at the NRM Electoral Commission offices on Tuesday.

The ruling party EC chairman Dr Tanga Odoi issued a notice to whoever wants to contest for the vacant position to express interest on Tuesday.

The office fell vacant following the death of Hon Oulanyah on Sunday morning.

Deputy Speaker Hon Anita Among is among those who have already announced bid to replace Oulanyah.

The law indicates that no business shall be transacted on the floor of Parliament without a substantive Speaker.

Kadaga previously served as Deputy Speaker and Speaker for 20 years before she lost to Oulanyah in a hotly contested race.

From the day she lost the election, the Kamuli Woman MP has never stepped in Parliament.

Kadaga’s fresh bid for Speaker is a developing story…
