Uganda Police has said that following a directive from the Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the institution will now start respecting Court orders.

In the recent past, police has violated court directives, arrested suspects in the precincts of court and also refused to produce suspects in court after 48 hours expire.

The spokesperson of Uganda Police Fred Enanga on Tuesday issued a statement.

We wish to acknowledge the directive from the Attorney General instructing the police to obey court orders.  As the Principal Legal Advisor of Government, this directive now clears all other restrictions on the execution of court orders, including the inter-ministerial committee.

The Director of Human Rights and Legal Services, has communicated to all Police Units to observe the directive.  They must however, ensure that the COVID-19 SOPs are fully complied with during any execution of the court orders.
