The model projections show that the number of Coronavirus cases in Uganda will decrease from the previous week’s daily average of actual reported cases of about 140 to around 115.
The report from National Planning Authority indicates that for the week of 19th to 25th September, an average of 110 new cases per day and a weekly total of 771 new cases are projected.
For the week of 26th Sept to 2th October, a daily average of 117 new cases and a weekly total of 819 is projected.
These projections are lower than last week’s in part due to a decline in the number of reported cases over the past two weeks.
However, even though we see a declining trend of new daily cases, statistics from the Ministry of Health show that the number of admissions in both government and private hospitals has increased from 366 in August to 426 as of 12 September. Nonetheless, the number of critical cases has decreased with both government and private hospitals having 17 cases as of 12th September
At the continental level, South Africa, Morocco and Tunisia continued to record the highest number of cases over the last three weeks but the numbers have generally declined compared to the previous weeks, Table 1.
Neighbouring countries Kenya and Rwanda are still among the ten countries that reported the highest new cases over the past three weeks. The model projects that for the week ending 25th September, 2021, Kenya will record daily average of 460 and a weekly total of about 3,222 new cases, which is a decrease from the previous week.
Rwanda moved from 10th to 9th highest and the projections for the week ending 25th September are a daily average of 405, with a weekly total of about 2,832 new cases, which is not very different from the previous week.
On the global scene, USA, India and UK recorded the highest number of new cases in the past three weeks (3,202,010; 753,133 and 702,253 respectively).
