Two unidentified military officers who were critically injured after a train crushed their patrol truck as they crossed railway in Kireka were fleeing having knocked a boda boda in Bweyogerere leaving three people dead.
According to an eyewitness, the speeding truck knocked the boda boda cyclist who had two passengers; a lady and a young boy.
“We stopped them and they refused, we told them they had knocked a boda that had a woman and a kid. The three people on a motorcycle died instantly,” an eyewitness who spoke to this website said.
This website learned that the soldiers were rushing to Mbuya Barracks which is stone-throw away from Kireka.
In Kireka, this website understands they were warned that a train was crossing but they didn’t listen.
“The driver sped off thinking he would have crossed unfortunately the train was very near,” another eyewitness said.
Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said fire and rescue services have responded at an incident where a UPDF Land cruiser H4DF2180 was involved in a collision with a Uganda Railways locomotive.
“The fire and rescue services was able to rescue two UPDF soldiers albeit, in very critical condition. The two, both privates, have been taken for treatment,” he said in a brief statement.
UPDF spokesperson Flavia Byekwaso was unavailable for a comment.
