BREAKING: Ssegirinya, Ssewanyana remanded to Kitalya over Masaka Killings

MPs Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana in the dock as their lawyer Erias Lukwago argues their case

National Unity Platform (NUP) lawmakers Hon. Ssegirinya Muhammad and Hon. Allan Ssewanyana have been charged at Masaka Chief Magistrates Court and remanded to Kitalya mini security prison.

They were charged Tuesday afternoon with four counts; three of murder and one of attempted murder and jailed until September 15.

This development comes hours after Hon Ssegirinya had won an election petition in which his opponent Sulaiman Kidandala contested his January 16 victory as Kawempe North MP.

The duo appeared at Masaka Police Station on Monday following Friday summons to answer their alleged involvement in the ongoing killings in Greater Masaka region.

This comes at a time when joint security agencies are trying to put one and two together on what could be the cause of the killings that have since snuffed out 28 lives in just one month.

The assailants whose motive is yet to be established have also injured several others.

They have mostly been targeting the elderly from 50 years and over.

On Monday, flanked by their lawyers Erias Lukwago and Shamim Malende, the pair was released on police bond late in the night.
