The Parliamentary Appointments Committee has on Tuesday endorsed IGP- Gen Kale Kayihura’s three year contract.
Kayihura appeared before the MPs earlier to defend the renewal of his contract by the Commander in Chief (CiC) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The closed doors vetting session which was visibly tense was chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga.
Also in attendance are Deputy Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah and Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kizza.
Parliament solely vets all the high profile appointments made by the president.
From the sidelines of Parliament speculations were high that the police chief was likely to face it hot mainly on the spate of current killings and other criminal activities involving police commanders according to media reports.
Members of opposition were irked by the news of Kayihura’s term extension. They wondered why the police institution is solely run by one individual as if the country lacks capable leaders.
