President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to make a Covid-19 address this evening at 8pm following the surge of Coronavirus infections and deaths.
In two days alone- Tuesday and Wednesday- the Ministry of Health documented 79 deaths and over 3000 cases.
It must be noted that these are official numbers captured by the Ministry. There are more patients succumbing to Covid-19 in private health facilities which are not reported to government.
As a result, Ugandans have since used different social media platforms to pour out their frustration appealing to the President to impose a total lockdown to prevent more community transmissions.
The citizens believe that curtailing movement of people especially in Kampala and its neighbouring districts will impact hugely on the spiraling infections and deaths.
This website has since learnt that Museveni will address the nation after receiving brief on the deteriorating health situation, which if mismanaged could result into a national disaster.
Museveni, has been very submissive to the scientists whom he consults before taking express decisions regarding this pandemic.
Before he imposed a partial lockdown for 42 days, the Covid Taskforce he appointed pushed for a total lockdown for 3 weeks.
However, Museveni warned Ugandans that shouldn’t they adhere to the new measures he issued, he would subject the whole country into a full lockdown.
Our sources said that Museveni will order for a new lockdown of 2 weeks as Health experts observe the new developments.
The Task Force on Covid will sit at State House Entebbe today at 9am with the President to make final recommendations.
