The top organ of NRM party, the Central Executive Committee (CEC) has failed to endorse a candidate for Speaker of 11th Parliament between Hon Rebecca Kadaga and Hon Jacob Oulanyah.

CEC which is chaired by the party Chairman who is also the President- Yoweri Museveni had convened at Entebbe State House on Monday.

But after five hours of exchanging ideas, the meeting couldn’t make a decision.

Both Oulanyah and Kadaga are members of this organ.

The meeting has since extended powers to the party Electoral Commission chaired by Dr Tanga Odoi to vet all those interested in positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Kadaga has been at the helm of Parliament for 2 decades, serving twice as Deputy Speaker.

In 2016, she implored CEC to offer her more 5 years so as to complete her tenure of 10 years as Speaker just like her predecessor Hon Edward Ssekandi.

At a time, Oulanyah had expressed interest in the job, but he obliged and bowed out of the race waiting for his turn in 2021.

However, Kadaga vowed to retain her seat. She challenged all those ‘alleging’ that she asked for 5 years in 2016 to provide empirical evidence.

The party has since split into two blocs; those supporting Oulanyah and Pro- Kadaga.
