Museveni

In a tactical way to end the oil cash probe, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assured MPs at State House, Entebbe that he will refund shs 6 billion he authorized as a reward to 42 government officials.

Legislators sitting on  parliamentary committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE)   chaired by Hon Abdu Katuntu on Wednesday morning stormed State House to probe Museveni as the last witness.

Unlike the previous sessions held at Parliament which were open to the media, this time round security locked out journalists who had traveled with these lawmaker.

A source who attended the meeting  told us that Museveni said he wanted to please the officials for the patriotism they displayed in participating in the tax arbitration battle between government and Heritage oil and Gas limited.

“I simply wanted to say thank you to these patriotic civil servants,” he is quoted to have said.

He however distanced himself from the manner in which these officials initiated for the payment.

However, Don Wanyama the Presidential spokesman when asked said this is not true.

“I don’t know where people are getting these rumours. First of all the meeting never ended. So i suggest you wait for the press briefing tomorrow,” he said.

It remains unknown where the President will source that money.
