China donates 70 SUVs to Uganda ahead of Museveni’s Swearing in

The SUVs parked at Kololo

The Chinese government through its ambassador Zheng Zhuqiang has handed over 70 SUV cars to Foreign Minister Hon Sam Kutesa.

The hand over ceremony was at Kololo Independence grounds where the SUVs were lined.

The development comes a few days to President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing in ceremony which will take place at the same venue.

The Minister of Presidency Esther Mbayo on Tuesday announced that 42 Heads of State had been invited to attend Museveni’s fete and 21 have since confirmed.

As to whether these SUVs will transport these dignitaries on May 12, it remains unknown.

But Mr Kutesa while receiving the motor vehicles said that,  “Uganda values the historic, progressive, excellent bilateral relations with the People’s Republic of China and remains committed to deepening them further in the political, security, economic, social, cultural and scientific fields.”

Kutesa lauded the ambassador and his government for the support China extended to Uganda to host the third G77 summit.

The G77 Summit which was scheduled to take place in April 2020 in Kampala was rescheduled to a later date due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Mr Kutesa said Uganda will host the summit on a yet to be announced date.

The outgoing Chinese envoy Zheng reaffirmed that his government values the comprehensive cooperative partnership with Uganda, and is committed to its continuous support to Uganda’s development agenda.
