The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has Thursday appeared at Capital Shoppers in Ntinda amid tight security as he picked a few groceries from the mega supermarket.
He was clad in red shirt and blue jeans and also observed the SOPs as he wore a face mask to protect him against Covid-19.
His appearance caused stampede among his subjects who cheered him on following speculation that the King was in bad shape and his health had deteriorated after a video clip made rounds in which His Highness was captured as he struggled to breathe.
The video aroused public uproar as Kingdom subjects faulted the palace officials for bringing a frail King to appear at a public function.
Mr Mutebi was marking 66 years old.
On Wednesday the Royal Family issued a statement saying the King had been unwell for a while but was recovering.
“Following Ssabasajja Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s public appearance on 13 April 2021 to mark his 66th birthday, social media has been awash with speculation regarding his health and wellbeing.
Ssabasajja has been unwell for a while. However, he has responded well to the prescribed medication and his medical team is positive about his prognosis.
The Royal Family would like to express their gratitude to the public for their good wishes as well as for their concern towards Ssabasajja Kabaka,” the family wrote.
Revelers took pictures of the The Majesty doing shopping at the supermarket.
Kabaka’s public appearance could be move initiated by Mengo officials to prove critics that Kabaka is recovering.
