Security officials from Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) customs department have laid siege at Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s home in Magere to impound his newly acquired SUV which is reportedly bullet proof on grounds of evading tax.
The decision to impound the vehicle followed a Thursday morning resolution by URA to recall the car for tax re-evaluation.
Reports also indicate that the commissioner who worked upon its release a one Jane Akello has been sent on forced leave with immediate effect.
According to sources, the clearing of such armoured vehicles is a preserve of security, and some elements in the military are now bitter.
However, URA Spokesman Ian Rumanyika has since denied that the tax regulatory body has fired any of its employees. “We haven’t fired anyone’.
“We are aware of this issue and are currently investigating it in accordance with our usual practices. Until we have concluded the investigation, we will not make any further comment”, added Rumanyika.
This website on Tuesday published an article indicating details of how the car came into Uganda.
