After spending a night at Natete Police Station, Nigerian musician Omah Didia alias Omah Lay will appear at Makindye Magistrates Court on Monday (today).

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire confirmed this development saying the musician and his co- accused were still waiting for their lawyers before recording statements.

“The lawyers have delayed to come. But they will definitely appear today,” he said.

Omay Lay, and 8 others who include Temilade Openyi alias Tems a fellow Nigerian singer, Muyiwa Awomiyi (Temilade’s manager), Benjamin Kabura (organiser), Ivan Ddungu, the manager of the place where the concert was held, and Prim Kasana, the event manager, who contracted Omah Lay to sing were arrested on Sunday afternoon as they planned to leave Uganda after performing at Ddungu Resort in Munyonyo.

Police said the concert held in the middle of a pandemic was illegal and the police officers who manned the event were also apprehended.

Police officers; L/AIP Fabiano Juma, No.51328 PC John Bosco Ocaba and No.67898 PC Paul Odongo are also detained.

“All suspects are being held on offence of doing acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease, which is Corona virus,” a statement from Police released yesterday said.

“It is alleged that the organizers of the concert first held lunch and dinner events, but later on at night they started inviting artistes to perform. Preliminary investigations indicate that they connived with area police officers, who guarded the illegal event.

The arrested officers and three others still at large are also being investigated for disobeying lawful orders. All the suspects are detained at Katwe Police Station in Kampala as their files are being processed so that they can appear in court.”
