Paul Wanyoto, a renowned city lawyer and also the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Parliamentary candidate for Mbale Northern Division has gone into self isolation as doctors monitor his health before he is allowed to resume campaigns.
Wanyoto was advised to self isolate after he returned from abroad.
“The Ministry of Health advised that it is not appropriate to engage with the public especially when I am from abroad. I have since isolated myself for 14 days and I will thereafter take a test,” he said.
Mr Wanyoto, who is a brother to the NRM women’s league chairperson Lydia Wanyoto, was declared the FDC flag bearer after defeating three contestants, including current Bungokho North MP Sizomu Gershom Wambedde.
He faces off 9 more competitors in the main race to represent Mbale Northern Division in Parliament of Uganda.
They include; Masaba Ivan (NUP), Wambede Seth (NRM) and Wandera Muhamad (ANT). The 6 independent candidates are; Gershomu Sizomu Rabbi Wambede, Mashate Peter, Nangoli Umar, Magala Iman, Aryampa Jackson and Webisa Dennis.
To be absent in such a tight race as his opponents remain canvassing for support, Mr Wanyoto said he is touch with his taskforce and his supporters on ground.
“I wouldn’t want to endanger them by exposing myself in the campaigns. The health of my people matters a lot. Suppose I am sick and I transmit the infection to my people is that leadership? Or seeking cheap political capital?” he questioned.
