Labour Minister has Tuesday been released by Ntungamo Chief Magistrates Court on shs 4 million bail and also ordered to deposit his passport.
Rukutana was remanded to Kitalya Prison by the same Court a week ago on several charges of attempted murder, gun theft and malicious damage.
Rukutana’s sureties who included Jim Muhwezi, Bob Kabonero and Michael Mawanda were bonded at shs 50 million non-cash.
Court told Rukutana that he can access his passport whenever he wants it.
Earlier the President who condemned the election violence purportedly orchestrated by Rukutana told the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to oppose the Minister’s bail.
The Minister, two weeks ago was filmed grabbing a gun from his bodyguard and advancing to a group of civilians who were in a car.
His bodyguard later disarmed him.
Rukutana had faced off with a group of supporters loyal to his rival Naome Kabasharira who was announced winner of Rushenyi County NRM primaries before the party Electoral Commission chairman Tanga Odoi annulled the result and setting Tuesday (today) as the day when the victor will be announced.
