Kidega meets Kiir: S.Sudan crisis &EALA polls tops the agenda

The two leaders shaking hands after a fruitful discussion

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) speaker Rt Hon Dan Kidega today concluded his visit in South Sudan capital Juba where he discussed with President Salva Kiir the country’s instability.

The outgoing Speaker further dialogued with Kiir about incoming election in which the S. Sudan will send its representative in the regional Parliament at Arusha, Tanzania.

The closed door meet saw the two principals expound on the instability that has ravaged the youngest nation in Africa pitting Vice President Riek Machar against President Kiir.

An official who attended the meeting told TrumpetNews that these politicians also discussed the deployment of Regional Peace Force (RPF) in South Sudan to repel any possible attack by Machar’s rebels.

“Our priority now is to champion the East African Integration and the war in S. South has been hindering its progress,” the official said.

Speaker Kidega when contacted confirmed the development but didn’t disclose more details saying he was holed up in a couple of meetings.

The clashes between forces loyal to Kiir and Machar led to a heightened security situation with a spill over effect prompting residents of the capital Juba to flee whiles some countries evacuated their citizens who were caught up in the conflict.

As his tenure near end, Kidega has been meeting East African leaders to engage them and their nationals on consolidating the East African Community.
