The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has petitioned the NRM electoral commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi over “theft” of its party member Wilberforce Kaggwa who was nominated as a ruling party candidate for Gomba West Member of Parliament in the coming elections.
In a letter obtained by this website dated 26th August, the FDC Kawempe chairperson informs Dr Tanga that Kaggwa has been a key mobilizer for Kawempe and also instrumental in recruitment for FDC party especially in Butambala and Gomba districts.
The letter further notifies Tanga that Mr Kaggwa has never returned the FDC card neither denounced his allegiance with FDC.
“I write this letter to protest against the nomination of the above candidate on the NRM ticket for Gomba West constituency in the upcoming elections. Mr Wilberforce Kaggwa is an active member of FDC having registered on February 13 2015,” the letter reads in part.
A copy of Kaggwa’s party card was attached to the letter.
“It is very disappointing to say the least that NRM shamelessly stole our member and lied to the whole country especially the people of Gomba that he is your candidate,” adds the letter.
“How can NRM, a party that has spent so many years in power fail to groom its own cadres?”
The purpose of the letter according to FDC was to demand for an apology and denouncing Kaggwa as the NRM candidate.
The letter was received by the NRM electoral commission on August 29.
It remains unclear whether the ruling party will heed to FDC’s demands.
