12 hours after declaring the partial results for NRM CEC, the ruling party party Electoral Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi delayed to officially recognize Hon. Mike Mukula as the winner for NRM vice chairman Eastern Uganda.
The delay raised suspicion of a sinister plot to manipulate results in Mukula’s disfavour.
Earlier results released by NRM tally center indicated that Hon Mike Mukula had garnered 5818 votes, his closest rival Sanjay Tanna 4162 while Christine Harriet Akello got 162.
The results left Mukula’s camp celebrating the victory.
“Good morning to you all. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all that voted for me to retain my position as NRM vice chairperson Eastern. Time once again to work through this mighty party and transform our beloved pearl of Africa. God bless you,” Mukula took to his Twitter page to announce on Friday morning.
However, jubilations from Mukula’s camp could were cut short, as NRM EC Odoi was still shy to declare the results for NRM Eastern Vice chairperson race.
According to sources, Tanna’s camp explored all means to ensure that the final result is declared to their favour.
Apparently, about Shs200m had been put on table for top officials at the NRM Secretariat to alter the final results. This explains why Tanga Odoi delayed to announce the results for the Eastern region race.
Dr. Tanga Odoi finally declared Mukula winner 12 hours later. The NRM EC boss didn’t have a clear reason for the long wait.
Tanga said that nobody can push the NRM commission to declare results that are not ready.
Mukula and Tanna have had the most fierce contest among the contenders for the 9 positions for Central Executive Committee (CEC), a highest decision making organ of NRM.
