COVID-19 deaths rise to 16 as 53 new infections are Recorded

COVID-19 cases in Rwanda hit 40

Coronavirus has since become a global threat.

The Ministry of Health informs the general public that Uganda has registered one (1) death.

This brings the total COVID-19 deaths to sixteen (16).

The deceased is a 60-year-old Ugandan male from Mbale District.

He presented at a private health facility in Mbale District with signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and was under isolation.

He was then referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for further management where he passed on.

A total of sixteen (16) contacts to the deceased have so far been listed.

In the same vein, results from samples tested on 18th August 2020 confirmed 53 new COVID-19 cases.

Of the fifty-three (53) confirmed cases; thirty-five (35) are alerts and eighteen (18) are contacts to previously confirmed cases.

Regarding the thirty-two (32) alerts; – twenty-eight (28) are from Kampala, two (2) from Wakiso, two (2) from Amuru and three (3) from Buikwe, Buvuma and Soroti.

The eighteen (18) contacts to previously confirmed cases are broken down as follows;- ten (10) are from Kikuube, five (5) are from Kampala and three (3) are from Busia, Masindi and Wakiso.

Eleven (11) foreign truck drivers (10 Kenyans and 1 Rwandese) tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.
