Head of Mission: Frank Baine is the spokesperson of Uganda Prisons

A total number of 199 prisoners and 24 prison warders have been placed under quarantine in Namutumba District after an inmate was found infected with Coronavirus.

The patient was at a time incarcerated at Kaiti Prisons in the same district in Eastern Uganda.

The news was announced by Frank Baine, the Prisons spokesperson who said, the case had been arrested from Mayuge District for defying the health guidelines and was detained for 4 days.

“After handing him over to the Ministry of Health, we have gone ahead to quarantine the whole prison, with prisoners and staff there for 14 days. Today (Wednesday), we are expecting officials from the Ministry of Health to come and carry out random sample collecting,” Baine told the media on Wednesday.

The case was immediately handed over to Health officials and is being treated in Jinja District.

Uganda todate has since registered 679 cases of Covid-19, with 120 recoveries and zero death.
