President Yoweri Museveni has agreed to extend the lockdown by one week after a heated cabinet meeting at State House Entebbe in which a section of ministers wanted the lockdown lifted while others wanted more extension of three weeks.
The section of Ministers argued that the new overwhelming numbers of truck drivers who had tested positive for COVID-19 in the last two days are a big threat to the people of Uganda.
The Ministry of Health reported that 88 truck drivers had tested positive since Saturday.
Earlier on Saturday, this website reported that Museveni and his ministers had agreed to ease on lockdown with restrictions but that position has since been reviewed.
A source on Monday evening said, however, Museveni will reopen some services.
The President is soon addressing the nation.
