Jinja Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Eric Sakwa has rushed to the High Court challenging his removal from office by secretary at President’s office Hajji Kakande Yunus.
Last week Friday Mr Kakande directed that the Jinja district internal security officer takes over from Sakwa in the interim capacity
“You are required to hand over any government property in your possession in accordance with the laid down procedure and regulations,” reads the letter adding that he will receive salary not less than half of his basic pay.
Sakwa was also blocked from leaving the country.
The interdiction followed a Court process in which Sakwa had been jailed on charges of manslaughter, theft and malicious damage. He is still battling charges while on Court bail.
However, on Wednesday Sakwa told Court that he was being threatened by Mr Kakande’s agents.
The embattled RDC dragged the Attorney General and Haji Kakande Yunus to Court.
Eric Sakwa 38 maintains that all his troubles germinate from his struggles with land grabbers and he recently pointed out MP Balyeku over his woes.
He outlined his reasons to Court why he can’t vacate office and reminded his tormentors that he is not a civil servant because his mandate is purely political, therefore his sacking can only be sanctioned by the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni who is his appointing authority.
“The applicant is serving as the Resident District Commissioner for Jinja District and his appointment is political. The applicant is not a Civil Servant and his appointment is not subject to any other terms save for those contained in the appointment letter and the functions and duties laid down under The Local Government Act. The applicant also performs all other assignments allotted to him by the President,” reads part of Sakwa’s application.
