A man identified as Denis Michael Owamani, a resident of Nyakabungo, Buhara Subcounty in Kabale District committed suicide on May 10 after he failed to buy salt of shs 1000.
The suicide case was registered at Rwene Police under Vide SD Ref 06/10/05/20.
Owamani, according to the residents had been looking for 1000 to buy salt since his wife asked him to, after failing to find the money for a whole day, he committed suicide in the evening at around 7:30pm.
“Preliminary inquiries indicate that before the deceased committed suicide, the wife had requested for salt and that’s when the deceased threatened to kill himself,” reports from Rwene police says.
Regional Police spokesman Elly Matte confirmed the incident saying Owamani killed himself after his wife left for the market.
“That when the wife left home, on coming back she found a photo of his husband with a crossed mark on it, which prompted her to rush and inform the parents of the deceased who came and did a joint search, that led them to the deceased hanging on a rope in his sitting room,” Matte said.
Matte said a team of investigators visited the scene and that the body was examined by the police surgeon and postmortem done to that effect.
