Ugandan schools from Kindergarten to university will remain closed for a long period of time even after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni eases on the lockdown on Monday night.
Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwiine who is among the experts Uganda has in fighting the COVID-19, told the people of Kisoro to brave for more days as government has not planned for the education sector.
Atwiine had been traversing part of Uganda in the quest to assess how citizens are responding to government’s health guidelines in fighting COVID-19.
Earlier she has been at Uganda- Tanzania border in Mutukula to review the preparedness of the health facilities in handling Coronavirus infections.
After that she moved to Chanika border in Kisoro and also Katuna border in Kabale to establish preparedness of the communities, hospitals and the government officials against Coronavirus.
Meeting the leaders of Kisoro district, Atwiine told them that students are among the vulnerable groups which can be greatly affected if infected with the disease. Therefore, it will take time for government to draw a plan to ensure safety of the schools.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will Monday night address the nation revealing government’s plan for COVID-19 following the end of 21-days of lockdown.
Yesterday this website reported that the National Taskforce on COVID-19 had requested Museveni to extend the shutdown by more 21 days because of the outbreak of new infections in the community.
But the decision will be discussed by cabinet and the President.
A police officer in Masindi tested positive prompting Ministry of Health to quarantine all of the police officers and cordoning off the police station.
Similarly in Mutukulu a new case had been reported and currently quarantined in the isolation unit.
Uganda has 89 cases and 52 recoveries.
