Kagame Sacks top General Nyamvumba  after 5 Months in Cabinet

The Rwanda Defence Forces (RDC) General Patrick Nyamvumba has Monday been fired as Minister of Internal Security, a statement from the premier Eduoard Ngirente reads on behalf of the Presidency.

The high-ranking military official becomes the second top Minister to be sacked in less than 21 days after the dismissing of Olivier Nduhungirehe, the motor-mouthed state Minister for EAC affairs.

The battle hardened soldier was relieved of his duties owing to matters of accountability under investigations.

Nyamvumba, 53, breaks record as shortest serving cabinet Minister after 5 months in office.

Nyamvumba who previously served as Rwanda’s long serving Chief of Defence Staff was removed from the army and given a political office in November 2019.

Whereas his alleged crimes remain unmentioned the Prime Minister said the axed General reports back to RDF head offices pending further decision.

However, a source in Kigali told TrumpetNews, that the Commander in Chief (CiC) Gen Paul Kagame had earlier warned Nyamvumba together with Minister of Defence of misappropriating funds.

Other theories suggest that President Kagame had started getting rid of the old guard from active leadership particularly in the army and appointing the youthful and loyal commander in the sensitive positions.

Nyamvumba follows the likes of James Kabarebe, Jack Nziza, Karenzi Karake and other senior military commanders who were laid off from command.
