Ex state minister of finance (in charge of general duties) Fred Jachan Omach is the new Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) board chairman.
The inauguration of the 7 member team took place today at the Authority’s head offices.
Omach was last year defeated miserably in a parliamentary election in Jonam County, Nebbi district and has since then remained on ‘kateebe.’
This trusted NRM cadre lost election to.
He replaces Angella Kiryabwire whose tenure expired.
Omach and team are appointed by Minister of Works and Transport.
Omach has held a number of assignments since 1978, when he first worked for with the Ministry of Public Service, as a Personnel Officer.
In 1979 he joined the now defunct Uganda Commercial Bank (UCB). Over the years, he rose through the ranks until he attained the rank of General Manager, at UCB, the largest commercial bank in Uganda at that time. In 2001, he retired from banking and entered elective politics which he left in 2016
The roads authoritywas previously embroiled in a leadership crisis. In 2012, then Works Minister John Byandala dissolved the board but the board said it had not renewed the second tenure of Eng. Peter Ssebanakita, the then executive director, forcing the minister to reappoint him amid objection from the board.
