A ‘highly connected’ businessman Abid Alam who became hostile to local communities in Mityana District by destroying residences and food plantations has been remanded to new Kitalya Prison.
Kitalya mini-maximum security Prison is located on Mityana Road.
The presiding judge Ketty Joan Acaa charged him with conspiracy to defeat the course of justice.
Mr Abid, known for his arrogant character was charged along with other four policemen who were allegedly helping him to elude justice.
They include: Regional CID Officer Wamala, SP. Wanyama Wilber Ostin, DPC Kasanda ASP Owellano Daincl, OC CID Kasanda ASP Beitcra Peter and In charge CID Records Wamala Sgt Azale.
The charges stem from atrocities committed by a group of people attached to the businessman.
The group was recently accused of gang raping a woman before they destroyed banana plantations, robbed property and battered residents of Bukoba and Bukompe villages, among others.
Mr Abid and his co-accused were remanded until May 8 when they will return to court for further mention of the case.
