Tycoon Abid Alam Released on Bond, ordered to Return for Grilling

Abid Alam appearing before Col. Nakalema for questioning.

City businessman Abid Alam has been released on bond on Thursday night having been arrested by President Yoweri Museveni’s aide Col. Edith Nakalema.

The arrogant investor spent the whole day in custody as he was grilled by State House Anti-Corruption Unit and Police detectives from CID.

Abid faces 27 criminal files.

Nakalema who heads the unit later told the media that she had handed over the ‘highly connected’ tycoon to Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for questioning into alleged crimes he committed last Saturday at Bukoba and Bukompe villages, Nalutuntu Parish, Nalutuntu Sub County in Kassanda South Constituency.

But this website understands that Abid was detained at Nakalema’s office at the office of the Prime Minister building for a whole day and was released at 8pm.

He will reappear again on Friday for further questioning.

An official in the Nakalema’s unit who asked not to be mentioned said Abid Alam’s cases are intense and he would end up in jail.

Nakalema’s unit doesn’t have powers to prosecute and it is believed that many criminals she has arrested and handed over to relative authorities end up walking scot -free as their cases are ‘mishandled.’
