Alert: Desert Locusts enter Uganda

Desert Locusts

Fresh reports coming in indicate that the desert locusts which had swarmed Karamoja Sub-region are on their way to Eastern Uganda particularly Bulambuli District.
The deadly pests entered Uganda on Sunday from Kenya.
Government laid out nine measures which it would use to defeat them.
Reports further said they had left Amudat and by Monday afternoon they were expected to be in Nakapiripiti and were likely to reach Bulambuli by Monday evening.
The locusts move at 100-300 kilometers per hour and can destroy 160 tons of vegetation.
The army dispatched 2000 troops to fight these species.
