Reports coming in indicate that Major Naomi Karungi, the only UPDF female pilot could have died in the jet ranger crash that occurred on Tuesday at Midday in the hills of Gomba District.
The UPDF establishment on Tuesday afternoon announced that its chopper had gone down killing all the two crew members on board.
Brigadier Richard Karemire, the spokesperson said the Jet Ranger AF 302 was on a training mission before it crashed.
“It had two crew members and no one is reported to have survived but investigations into the cause of the accident have commenced,”Karemire said on Twitter.
“We offer our condolences to the family members and the entire UPDF fraternity.”
However, Mr. Karemire has remained silent on the details of the crash. He couldn’t respond to our repeated calls neither did he respond to our WhatsApp texts on whether it is true Maj. Karungi had perished in the crash as suggested on social media.
This website spoke to a high ranking official in the army who revealed that, “it is possible” Karungi died. But he didn’t fully confirm.
Speaking to NTV in an interview, Karungi had earlier said the biggest challenges she faces while flying a Jet Ranger is the strong winds as a result of bad weather and high temperatures.
TrumpetNews is following up this matter and will bring more details.
