Fresh details have emerged from relatives of Richard Todwong, the NRM deputy secretary general on how he was injured by a bullet that shattered his leg last Saturday evening.
He was rushed to Gulu Independent hospital immediately after the incident that happened within his home in Bardege Division, Gulu Municipality just opposite the airfield.
After he was airlifted by a military copter to Kampala based IHK hospital.
Numerous accounts of his shooting have been raised by relatives, friends and more so his colleagues within the ruling party.
The secretary general Hon Justine Kasule Lumumba yesterday disputed claims that he shot himself as earlier reported but rather was injured while trying to chase a truck driver registration number UDG 307 that had knocked down a boda boda cyclist and sped off.
“In his capacity as a leader and responsible citizen, Hon Todwong pursued the truck who in an attempt to escape, endangered other innocent lives by driving recklessly necessitating Hon. Todwong to fire gun shots in the air to dispel by-standers as well as force the driver of the truck to stop, but he continued in defiance till they reached a roadblock mounted along the road by traffic police that the truck was stopped and the driver arrested,” her statement reads in part.
“It was while explaining to the police officers at the road block that the officers pointed to Hon Todwong blood stains on his trousers. So, we cannot establish at this moment whether he shot himself or was shot by someone else.”
It remains ambiguous how he managed to drive that distance without noticing the bullet wound or feeling pain inflicted upon him.
This version further raised suspicion since it was Todwong alone in possession of a gun and there was no exchange of bullets.
However, Todwong confided in a close pal how unknown people wanted to assassinate him.
Domestic brawl
The NRM honcho is a known polygamist with 2 official wives and a bunch of other mistresses.
The incident happened at time he hadgone to check on his third woman who had just given birth that very day.
At his home in Bardege, Todwong stays with the second wife while the first one who hails from Bushenyi lives in Kampala.
A relative told TrumpetNews that one of his mistresses travelled all the way from Kampala and wanted to deliver from Gulu.
“You might wonder why someone would want to give birth from upcountry hospital yet Kampala has the best facilities,” a relative said.
Against that backdrop the second wife whose names we are trying to ascertain heard romours of her husband’s new baby. “But the new kid is the main problem,” a relative said.
Bizarre fist fighting ensued between Todwong and the wife and in that process he accidently fired a bullet which hit his leg.
TrumpetNews couldn’t independently verify this information. But we confirmed that has been embroiled in countless duels with his wives over polygamy tendencies.
“Truth is he is my close friend but he loves women so much,” a pal said.
Todwong couldn’t be reached for a comment as all his known mobile phones are switched off.
He remains hospitalised at IHK receiving treatment.
