Number of People Killed in Fuel Truck Explosion Rises to 22

The explosion scene

Uganda Police has confirmed to this website that 22 people bodies have so far been found after a fuel truck crashed at Kyambura trading centre in Rubirizi district in Western Uganda before it exploded and killed people.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening and police retrieved 10 churned bodies. However, the number shot up to 19 on Monday afternoon as authorities along with the locals combed the scene to find out more bodies.

By evening police spokesperson Fred Enanga said number had reached to 22.

The bodies are being transported to a nearby health centre “for further post-mortem analysis and DNA profiling”

Another body was found trapped under the truck, police said.

Nine more people injured in the accident later died from their wounds, police spokesman Fred Enanga told the media.

The tanker was on its way from Kenya to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, police said.

More than 30 shops were burned to shops and these shops had occupants.

Police added that two taxis, carrying at least 20 people, were among the damaged cars, without mentioning their fate.
