Col. Kizza Besigye’s wife Winnie Byanyima has admitted talking to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni quite often because he is the leader of Uganda.
The two, according to Winnie discuss the country’s state of affairs.
Byanyima’s revelation was triggered by a twitter post in which a user discredited President Museveni’s government of not offering any support while she was lobbying for her new job.
Byanyima was recently appointed Executive Director of UNAIDS, global entity whose main role is to combat HIV.
She previously served as OXFAM head.
In her tweet Byanyima said, “I meet Kaguta Museveni at global and African meetings. I talk to him about regional and Ugandan issues. He is the president of Uganda.”
Being a wife to Museveni’s long time political nemesis, radical opposition supporters expect Winnie to become hostile to the President.
However, Byanyima is well known for her liberalism. On sporadic occasions she even faults her husband Kizza Besigye when she feels he is pursuing a wrong path in his quest for regime change.
One of those rare moments is when she questioned why African women should kneel before their husbands and also assuming their husbands’ names when they get married.
