As the nation prepares for general elections come 2021, interesting to watch is Kampala Lord Mayor contest.
Three heavyweights have so far expressed interest in vying for the seat and they include; musician Joseph Mayanja commonly known as Chameleon, former security minister Henry Tumukunde and MP Latif Ssebagala.
The trio has been engaged in clandestine mobilization while meeting grass root structures.
Popular singer Chameleon to justify his actions, joined Democratic Party while its remains unclear if Mr. Tumukunde will run as an independent or on the ruling party’s card.
Kawempe MP, Ssebagala will contest as an independent.
Erias Lukwago who currently holds the seat has not announced whether he will seek a reelection.
Mr. Tumukunde over the weekend met and interacted with a section of people in Kampala deemed marginalized due to religion.
During his reign as minister, Mr. Tumukunde openly supported the Muslims who at a time faced persecution from Uganda Police led by Gen. Kale Kaayihura.
Chameleon On Monday took to his social media pages to describe his meeting with Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi lias Bobi Wine as a “great insight.”
“It was A great opportunity yesterday to Meet and Interact With My Brother,Comrade and fellow Artiste Robert Kyagulanyi | Bobi Wine.
It was nice catching up since we never have abundant time as we are both in and out of country. It took me back to the good memories as we begun a journey that we both didn’t know would inspire a whole generation.
We widely talked about so many issues. Intolerance of another, Hate speech,Crime and so many others in direction to liberate ourselves. With my brother, Emphasis was Unity and the Struggle regardless of Political affiliations, Tribes, Class, Religion and all major factors.
To achieve the change, we well deserve, we must all be one Uganda.
Thank you Hon. Kyagulanyi | Bobi Wine for the great insight”.
