Pressure; Nile Breweries’ Marketing Boss Daniel Ogong resigns

Nile breweries were two years ago Uganda’s beer market leaders. That is no more since Uganda breweries got their house in order. Latest information reaching TrumpetNews this afternoon indicates Daniel Ogong-Nile breweries marketing director has resigned.

The reasons for his resignation are attributed to increased work pressure.

Marketing boss crumbles under pressure

Daniel Ogong who has held the marketing docket leadership of the AB InBev owned brewery in Uganda becomes the second brewery marketing director to resign in months after the much publicised exit of Grace Nshemeire who held a similar position at Luzira based Uganda breweries.

“Daniel was a good boss. He offered strategic direction on our marketing plans and always helped when we needed him. But lately, he has been stressed. We knew it was only a matter of time before he quits” said of one of his colleagues.

AB InBev takes over from SabMiller, changes operations model

Sources in Nile breweries intimate Daniel had from the close of last year been under so much pressure from the time the new Dutch owners-AB InBev took over from the free flowing SABMiller operational model.

“The new owners came with their own operating manual that was different from what we were used to under SABMiller. Top managers were finding it hard to adjust. I am not surprised Daniel is throwing in the towel” said an insider

Before his resignation, Daniel had helped Nile Breweries in the last quarter of 2016 launch a new corporate identity, which was meant to align it to changing consumer needs and tastes.

He had positioned their flagship brand Nile Special as favourite choice for beer drinkers, and revived the fortunes of other brands like Club, Nile Gold and Castle Lager.

New look, new direction

While unveiling the new company outlook, Greg Metcalf, the managing director, said since 1951 when the company was established, it has been using a roaring lion as its logo, which is old yet times and customers have changed.

Daniel leaves at the time the giant brewery was re-positioning itself to capture market leadership position and give their flagship brand- Nile Special a renewed status symbol in the beer industry.
