Government’s supplementary request for additional shs 280 billion for Uganda Airlines has been approved by Parliament of Uganda on Friday.
Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah presided over the sitting which accepted budget committee report to give Ministry of Works shs 280 billion as development expenditure to purchase planes bombardier planes for the airlines.
The manufacturer had given Uganda up to March 31 to avail $41.5m to clear cost of the first batch of two planes which are ready for delivery.
Usually, the contractor may terminate the contract if a client breaches purchase agreement for 14 days past due date of payment.
The development comes high after a minority report by opposition legislators questioned the ownership of Uganda Airlines as documents indicated that government owns only 1% of shares while the rest belong to unknown private individuals.
But the Minister of Works later submitted papers clarifying on the proprietorship,
However, Minister Ntege Azuba submitted wrong documents in regarding to registration of Uganda Airlines before admitting that there were errors in the registration process.
