Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has challenged his party president Norbert Mao to come clean on allegations that he is being financed by the ruling party to contest in the next election.
The Democratic Party (DP) leader last week announced his presidential bid amid ‘ululations’ from a section of the party members alleging that his bid was aimed at dividing opposition’s votes in favour of his ‘sponsor.’
A party member, Mr. Muwanga Kivumbi who also represents Butambala county claimed Mao is a regime element.
Responding to Kivumbi, Mao felt pity for the people of Butambala for allowing to be represented by a such a less intelligent lawmaker. He further said, “stupidity isn’t a crime.”
On Monday, Lukwago weighed in on Kivumbi’s claims saying Mao instead of trading a tirade of outbursts should prove Kivumbi otherwise.
“Some of us will not indulge in politics of scheing. Hon. Norbert Mao’s declaration is not about being a serious candidate or planning for us as the opposition. It is about scheming. That kind of politics will not take him anywhere,” Lukwago said on NBS TV.
He said Mao has mastered the art of rubbishing off whoever is opposed to his leadership buy unleashing ‘verbal diarrhea’ against that individual.
“What surprises me is the kind of sloppiness Norbert Mao has handed the issue of being sponsored by NRM for 2021 elections.”
Lukwago who is well known for ganging up against Mao and the mainstream party wondered why his party leader fronts tribal sentiments.
Lukwago is a radical member of People’s Government an establishment of Col Kizza Besigye, the founder of the strongest opposition party, FDC.
He refutes the notion that Besigye has also expressed willingness to contest in the next election.
“Norbert Mao is mentioning 4 candidates and talking about an electoral alliance. He shouldn’t drag the name of Besigye in this. Besigye hasn’t declared his intentions for standing in 2021,” Lukwago said.
