A team of highly- skilled police investigators has placed senior MTN workers and their close associates they have dealt with for a long time on security radar, this website has learnt.
A source at Naguru said this time round, the senior telecom officials on surveillance are all Ugandans unlike in the recent past when 3 foreign employees were repatriated to their respective countries.
Police received the orders from IGP Martin Okoth Ochola who was directed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni before he flew Davos, Switzerland to attend World Economic Forum (WEF).
While in Davos, Museveni held a brief meeting with Rob Shuter, the CEO of MTN group who sits at the head offices in South Africa.
The President expressed discomfort at the 100% profits that MTN takes back home.
He then proposed that the telecom should sell stake to the pension fund- NSSF.
As Museveni travelled to Davos, security deported three foreign nationals Oliver Prentout (French), Annie Tabura (Rwandan) and Else Muzzolini (Italian) on grounds of subversion and funding state opponents.
On Monday police confirmed more MTN officials are being investigated.
The accusation are the trio was colluding with foreign groups to destabilize the country.
Addressing the press today at CPS Kampala the police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that they are still following individuals through investigation and interrogations such that the country remains piece full.
“Security agencies will continue to investigate and monitor all individuals who are deemed to be a threat on our prevailing peace and stability,” Enanga said.
He called upon the media and the public to wait for the opportunity time as security agencies will come out with a report as security agencies adding that they are committed to promoting and prevailing stability.
