Speke Resort Munyonyo has once again affirmed its position at the pinnacle of Uganda’s hospitality industry after retaining its coveted five-star rating in the latest hotel grading and classification exercise released by the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).

The updated rankings, published this week, form part of UTB’s ongoing efforts to standardise accommodation facilities and enhance service quality across the country in line with East African Community (EAC) hospitality standards. The grading exercise evaluates hotels on a range of criteria, including infrastructure, service quality, safety, staffing, and guest experience.

Speke Resort Munyonyo, one of Uganda’s most iconic lakeside properties, was listed among a select group of establishments that achieved the highest five-star classification. The recognition underscores the resort’s consistent investment in luxury accommodation, conference facilities, leisure amenities, and customer service, positioning it as a preferred destination for high-profile conferences, international events, and leisure travellers.

Other facilities that attained five-star status include Kampala Serena Hotel, Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa and Sheraton Kampala Hotel, reflecting a growing cluster of premium hospitality offerings in the country.

According to UTB, the updated classification aims to provide clarity to both domestic and international travellers while encouraging hotel operators to continuously improve standards. The board noted that transparent grading also boosts investor confidence and strengthens Uganda’s competitiveness as a tourism destination.

Beyond the five-star category, the rankings feature several four-, three- and two-star hotels across Kampala and upcountry, highlighting the expanding diversity of accommodation options available to visitors.

The latest grading comes at a time when Uganda’s tourism sector is rebounding strongly, with visitor numbers and tourism revenues surpassing pre-pandemic levels. For Speke Resort Munyonyo, the renewed five-star recognition reinforces its status as a flagship property driving quality, excellence, and global appeal within Uganda’s hospitality landscape.
