The investigation into the brutal murder of Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Students Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU), has taken a significant turn following a police locus visit to her residence in Mukono District.
On Wednesday, detectives escorted prime suspect Hussein Dak Taewaiko to Tumwebaze’s home in Gwafu Village, Goma Division, Mukono District, where investigators reconstructed the events surrounding her killing.
Taewaiko, who previously worked at the residence as a house help, was taken through the premises under tight security as police sought to verify statements he recorded during interrogation.
Tumwebaze was murdered last week at her home in what police have described as a calculated and chilling attack.
Early findings indicate that the suspect allegedly switched on lights inside the house after the killing, wore the deceased’s dress, packed a laptop and phone into a bag, and asked the maid for gate keys before calmly exiting the premises.
These details that have deeply disturbed both investigators and the public.
The suspect was arrested over the weekend in Budaka District, where he was found in possession of items believed to belong to the deceased.
Police say this recovery provided a critical breakthrough in the case.
Further investigations have revealed that Tumwebaze had been separated from her husband for over ten years and was in the process of formalising a divorce, a development which police says is not examining as part of the broader inquiry into motive and circumstances surrounding the murder.
However, the ex husband Alex Matsiko will be invited at a later time to record a statement.
Tumwebaze was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Rubaya, Kashari, Mbarara District, amid grief from family, colleagues, students, and church members.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, investigations are ongoing, and detectives are continuing to analyse forensic evidence and witness statements as they prepare the case for prosecution.
The suspect will be arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court in Mukono.
