The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has been struck by fresh tragedy following the sudden death of Armored Division Commander (Masaka) Major General Deus Sande.
According to Col Chris Magezi, the Acting UPDF spokesperson, Maj Gen Sande passed away in the early hours of this Wednesday at around 3:45am in Mpigi District.
He was traveling to Kampala to attend the funeral service of his colleague, Major General Francis Takirwa, at All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero.
Maj Gen Takirwa died on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Col Magezi said Maj Gen Sande developed breathing complications while on the way to Kampala.
Efforts to resuscitate him at a hospital facility in Mpigi were unsuccessful.
The exact cause of death is yet to be established.
The back-to-back deaths of two senior generals have sent shockwaves through the UPDF fraternity, deepening grief within the military establishment.
The UPDF has extended its condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of Maj Gen Deus Sande as funeral arrangements are awaited. May his soul rest in peace.
