Moses Agaba, the proprietor of La Gatos Bar in Kiwatule, Kampala, is reportedly being held incommunicado together with his wife, who is nursing a two-month-old baby, amid allegations of fraud involving a multi-billion-shilling gold transaction.
Information obtained by this website indicates that Agaba was arrested earlier this week by men wearing army uniform, believed to be operatives of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).
His wife was also reportedly taken into custody. Since then, the couple has allegedly been detained at an army facility without access to lawyers, relatives, or formal communication.
The couple is accused of receiving about shs 2 billion from a high-ranking local investor after allegedly promising to supply gold, which was never delivered.
However, by press time, no official charges had been publicly presented in court.
When contacted for comment, Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said he was not aware of the arrest.

Similarly, acting army spokesperson Colonel Chris Magezi said he had no prior knowledge of the matter but promised to cross-check and revert.
This is not the first time Agaba has been linked to allegations of financial impropriety.
Last year, he reportedly parted ways acrimoniously with a former business partner with whom they co-owned Octopus Bar, which was later rebranded as La Gatos Lounge.
Sources familiar with that dispute claim that during negotiations to buy out his partner’s stake, Agaba allegedly issued cheques that later bounced, a development that contributed to the collapse of the partnership.
The matter did not result in a publicly known criminal conviction.
