Tragedy has struck at Greenhill Academy after a 12-year-old pupil who fell from the second floor of a school building earlier this week succumbed to his injuries this morning.
The deceased, whose name is being withheld for privacy, had been receiving intensive treatment at TMR International Hospital in Naalya since Tuesday, October 21, when the incident occurred during school hours.
His father, Counsel Kenneth Nsubuga, the Democratic Party’s legal advisor, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a brief message shared with close friends and colleagues.
“My son has gone to be with the Lord,” Nsubuga announced this morning on social media.
The boy’s death comes 3 weeks after the school reported that he was in critical condition and undergoing emergency surgery. The incident shocked the Greenhill community and prompted both an internal investigation and a police inquiry.
In its earlier statement, Greenhill Academy revealed that CCTV footage captured the pupil moving from his seat, picking toilet tissue, and rushing out of his classroom before he ran into another class and jumped over the balcony. The school said staff members acted swiftly to rush him to hospital and notified his family immediately.
“He is currently hospitalized and all relevant authorities have been informed. We request you to join us in prayer for his speedy recovery,” the school’s statement had read.
Following confirmation of the boy’s passing, an outpouring of grief has filled social media, with parents, teachers, and alumni expressing condolences to the bereaved family. Many described the pupil as bright, humble, and full of promise.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fall are still ongoing. Meanwhile, counselors have been deployed at the school to support both students and staff struggling to cope with the tragedy.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family later today.
