Hajjat Azida Nanteza Basajjabalaba, the mother of prominent businessman and NRM Vice Chairperson of the Entrepreneurs League, Hajj Hassan Basajjabalaba, has passed away.
She died in Cologne, Germany on Monday evening after a period of illness, the family has confirmed.
Although the family did not disclose the specific cause of death, sources close to them indicated that she, who was in her 80s, had been undergoing medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
The Basajjabalaba family, which is known for its entrepreneurship footprint and long involvement in Uganda’s business and political spheres, described Hajjat Azida as a pillar of strength whose guidance and generosity shaped both family and community.
In a condolence message issued by Kampala International University (KIU), where Hajj Dr. Hassan Basajjabalaba serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the institution expressed deep sorrow over her passing.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hajjat Azida Basajjabalaba, mother of our esteemed Chairman, Board of Trustees, Hajj Dr Hassan Basajjabalaba,” KIU said in a statement, extending condolences to the Basajjabalaba family.
The university praised Hajjat Azida’s legacy, describing her as a mother figure whose values of resilience and faith reflected through her children and those she nurtured.
Religious and business leaders are expected to issue further tributes in the coming days.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be communicated by the family.
