Police in Kampala have made a major breakthrough in the gruesome murder of a security guard who was beheaded while on duty at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kansanga.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the victim, Moses Epodoi, 32, a guard attached to Corporate Security Limited, was discovered dead on the morning of October 29, 2025, at the church premises.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased, who was on duty at the church gate, was attacked and beheaded by a suspect known to some church members,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement released on Thursday.
He added that a joint team of detectives and forensic experts visited and processed the scene, recovering key exhibits to aid investigations.
The suspect, identified as Caleb Alimu, was arrested a day later in an intelligence-led operation at Ggaba Landing Site, where he had allegedly fled after the incident.
Police say he has since confessed to the crime and is cooperating with investigators.
“He has confessed to the murder and is guiding investigators to where he hid the head and the knife used in the act,” Owoyesigyire confirmed.
The suspect, according to Police committed the murder because he was denied entry into church.
The body of the deceased was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination as detectives continue to probe the motive behind the killing.
Owoyesigyire commended the public for their cooperation and called for continued vigilance.
“We thank members of the public who shared information that led to the arrest of the suspect. We urge continued vigilance, especially during night duties,” he said.
