Police: 46 Killed in Gulu Highway bus Crash, Not 63

The Uganda Police has revised the fatality count in the tragic crash on the Kampala-Gulu Highway at Kitaleeba Village.

According to the latest update, 46 people lost their lives in the devastating accident involving two buses, a lorry, and an SUV.

Initially, reports indicated a higher number of fatalities to 63 but hospital officials confirmed that some unconscious victims were mistakenly counted among the deceased.

The police are working closely with health and emergency services to ensure accurate and timely updates.

The crash occurred when both buses attempted to overtake other vehicles, resulting in a head-on collision. The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving, particularly overtaking, which is a leading cause of fatal crashes in Uganda.

The police urge motorists to exercise caution and follow safe driving practices to prevent such tragedies. The injured are receiving medical attention, and the deceased are being prepared for post-mortem examination and identification.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving. The Uganda Police and emergency services are committed to supporting those affected and investigating the crash to prevent future accidents.
