The Indian Association of Uganda, in partnership with the High Commission of India and the Ruparelia Group, is set to host the Diwali and Annual Food Festival at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
The festival will showcase India’s diverse culture, traditions, and cuisine under the theme “Unity in Diversity.” It aims to strengthen cultural ties between Uganda and India while offering Ugandans a taste of India’s vibrant heritage.
Speaking ahead of the event, Paresh Mehta, Chairman of the Indian Association of Uganda, said Diwali represents the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness a message that resonates globally.
“Diwali brings together families and communities. It’s a universal celebration of hope, renewal, and togetherness. We’re proud to organize this year’s event with the support of our High Commission and our mentor, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia,” he said.
Sasi Nair, Secretary of the Association, revealed that over 100 food stalls and 15 cultural performances from various Indian regions have been registered.
“We want Ugandans to experience the flavors, colors, and rhythms of rural India in one place,” Nair said.
Treasurer Mohammed Vaheed explained that Diwali, derived from the Sanskrit word Deepavali, means “festival of lights.” During the event, attendees will enjoy live Bollywood music, dance, and a spectacular fireworks display by Jwala Fireworks.
The organizers have called on Ugandans and the international community to join the celebration, describing it as Uganda’s biggest Indian cross-cultural festival, promoting unity, friendship, and appreciation of shared values.
“Diwali is not just an Indian celebration it’s a global message of light, love, and peace,” Mehta concluded.
