City tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia, Chairman of Uganda’s leading tourism and hospitality providers Speke Group, has been honoured for his outstanding contribution to the industry.

The accolades were passed to the tycoon on September 27, 2025, during Uganda’s World Tourism Day National Celebrations in Arua, presided over by Prime Minister Robbinah Nabbanja.

Sudhir, a prominent business leader and conservation advocate, was awarded for his transformative contributions to wildlife preservation and the nation’s tourism sector.

Sudhir, also, Chairman of conglomerate Ruparelia Group, was presented with a golden flamingo trophy, symbolizing his outstanding dedication.
The event, held at the scenic Arua City Golf Course, brought together dignitaries, government officials, international guests, and communities from across Uganda and neighbouring countries to commemorate the global tourism industry’s impact and potential under the 2025 theme: “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

Chief Guest, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, commended the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and its agencies for their tireless work in positioning tourism at the heart of national development.

Prime Minister Hon Nabanja awarded Sudhir

She extended her heartfelt appreciation to the people of Arua and the broader West Nile region for their unmatched hospitality, cultural vibrance, and meticulous organisation, which made the celebration a resounding success.

She also warmly welcomed delegates from the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, acknowledging the unique geographical positioning of Arua as a gateway to regional cooperation, cross-border tourism, and cultural exchange.

She praised the private sectors led by investors like Sudhir who play a pivotal role in the growth of the country’s economy.

Sudhir’s recognition stems from decades of impactful work.

His initiatives have bolstered wildlife conservation, safeguarding endangered species and revitalizing national parks, while simultaneously driving eco-tourism. Projects under his leadership have not only attracted global attention but also empowered local communities through sustainable development. Efforts by his entities have positioned Uganda as a premier destination for nature enthusiasts, contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth.

The World Tourism Day organizers highlighted Sudhir’s role in fostering a balance between environmental stewardship and tourism expansion.
“His vision has set a global standard,” said a senior tourism official, noting the ripple effects of his investments in infrastructure and conservation programs.

Sudhir has reiterated his commitment to Uganda’s natural treasures, promising continued investment in tourism, hospitality and conservation efforts.
