Kampala Metropolitan Police has recovered part of the money stolen in a violent robbery that shocked Rubaga Division last month.

On 22nd August 2025, a group of machete-wielding thugs riding on five motorcycles waylaid Mr. Kisitu Ausi, an accountant with Give and Take Hardware, and robbed him of UGX 242 million as he attempted to deposit it in the bank. The daring daylight attack happened at Kakeka Zone, Rubaga Division, leaving the victim shaken but unharmed.

According to police spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, intelligence-led operations quickly swung into action after the robbery. Detectives carefully reviewed CCTV footage and followed several leads that resulted in the arrest of multiple suspects and the recovery of crucial exhibits.

“So far, police have recovered UGX 105 million of the stolen cash, a motorcycle believed to have been purchased with proceeds from the robbery, and a black laptop bag containing company vouchers and receipts,” Owoyesigyire said. “These items were positively identified by the complainant.”

The suspects, who have since been charged at Mwanga II Chief Magistrate’s Court, include Bakunda Steven alias Kevin, Atwine Robert Kiiza alias Mzee Lubuto, Andebuni Brian alias Junior Black, Musuza Raymond alias Caesar, Ssali Andrew alias Ande Swag, Kanyerezi Stanley, Nsubuga Andrew, and Aboth Shivan Alecho, who was charged as an accessory after the fact.

They face charges of Aggravated Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Being Accessories After the Fact to a Felony.

Police say investigations are still ongoing to track down other accomplices believed to be on the run.

Owoyesigyire assured the public that violent criminals will be pursued relentlessly: “We want to send a strong message that such gangs will be dismantled and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

The suspects will appear in court on Thursday, 11th September 2025, where they will be formally charged.
